Fantastic effort from Collis Birmingham, running a perfect race and running down athletes over the final three laps (nearly caught Solinsky which was also a great effort - 13.10.97 v's Solinsky 13.08.11).

Birmingham's performance was the 9th fastest 5000m by an Australian behind Mottram's 5000m times:
12.55.76 (London) - 2004
12:56.13 (London) - 2005
12:58.19 (Melbourne, CG) - 2006
13:03.37 (Bergen) - 2004
13:04.06 (Sevilla) - 2005
13:04.97 (Ostrava) - 2007
13:08.96 (London) - 2006
13:10.47 (Hengelo) - 2004

Ryan Gregson's 3.53.19 now places him at no.5 on the Australian all-time list for the mile - now only behind Mottram, Doyle, Riseley and Hillardt. Brilliant performance at such a young age. It will be interesting to see what he can produce over the next 3-4 years and beyond!

Fabriece Lapierre also jumped well, but his 8.50+ was called a foul and he had to settle for a best of 8.17m and 5th placing.

Would have loved to see Gregson in the main mile, might have dropped another second (nice new hair cut as well) Good run by Collis...he should be able to get close to 13min in a deeper field.

I hope these guys can hold form all the way thru to October.

Renshaw has dropped the 3 stripes for the swoosh. Looks good in the OTC green

You would love his new hair cut Rinaldi! Haha, it is more aero, that’s for sure! I couldn’t pick who he was at the start with the new hair cut and the new purple singlet!

Over the last couple of years, I thought Riseley might be the one to break Doyle's Australian 1500m record, but I’m thinking Gregson might do it first. It’s a possibility that we could have 2 guys under 3:31, maybe even under 3:30 in the next few years!

Gregson did do it first after all, but probably a bit sooner than I expected!
