I’m not suggesting you flatten yourself, but you can’t expect to feel 100% everyday if you want to improve.

Yep ;)SWJ, average alright,my problem was that I only did enough kms/week on a few occasions in a long career.Even then they were rarely balanced enough or specific enough for the training requirement,'cos I loved to race too often, still do. :D
But we live and learn.
Cheers.

agree "slow walking jones" - over a 12 month period - especially post track competition phase + older athlete (early 30's) - your body needs the recovery.
"mate" - I understand your philosphy of hard/easy/hard but in previous years backing up for any sort of medium long run on a wed has been impossible following a tue hard session - i have found a light jog on a wed morning helps but in order to achieve the following
m - easy jog
tue - reps eg: km repeats, fartlek,
wed - medium long run
thu - reps eg: hills, 20 min @ AT
fri - easy
sat - race/reps - eg: tan time trial, tempo run
sun - long run

I need to cut back the intensity of tue and or thur to be able to complete wed session.

Never do a hard session after a long run.

Golden rule!

Then you’ll just have to go easy in Tuesday’s session then. But not run too far on Wednesday as you have another session on Thursday!

I need to work on my golden rules

Change the long run. Drop a rep session. Was trying to emphasise adding a day between reps.

When I turned 30 I dropped a high intensity session and increased easier sessions and recovery sessions, with no difference in performance - actually slight improvement. But I did compete as a thrower.

Does anyone train in a cycle longer than 7 days, such as a 10 day cycle, therefore having a day or 2 between each long run and each session?

1. session
2. easy run
3. session
4. easy run
5. long run
6. easy run
7. session
8. easy run
9. medium long run
10. easy run

I know its easier doing the same sessions on the same days each week, especially with work commitments and such, but I’ve heard of full time athletes training like this before.
